Our intuition is our gut knowing. It’s our heart feeling. It’s the sense of knowing about a situation, even if we don’t logically understand why we know that.
Intuition is what many of us use to make business & leadership decisions.
But there are some specific times that we shouldn’t trust our intuition.
In today’s video, we’re going to talk about 3 massive mistakes even smart leaders make when trusting their intuition.
From a neuroscience perspective, brain experts believe that our intuition is a result of multiple learning from our past.
These learnings creates expected patterns of behaviour in our brain.
So when your current situation deviates away from these established patterns, it triggers a response within our mind & body that we call our intuition.
This is why our intuition is strongest in our areas of expertise.
Our intuition is usually right & this is why we’re often encouraged to trust it even more.
But there are specific times, that trusting our intuition can hold our lives back and stop us walking towards things that could be positive.
WHEN TO QUESTION TRUST YOUR INTUITION –
Sometimes it’s very hard to tell the difference between what is fear and what is intuition.
If what you are doing is something positive that you want in your life and it’s also significantly outside of your comfort zone, you need to question your “gut feeling”.
When you’re tired, you can rely on your intuition almost out of laziness so you don’t have to think through your decisions properly.
So you need to make sure that when you’re making a decision, you’re not in a tired space.
Is this a new situation? Or does the situation sit in my expertise?
Am I feeling tired? Or am I feeling like I can make this decision?
You are going to make a good decision when you include reflection in the process of trusting your intuition.
Your intuition is a gift.
You should be encouraged to tune into it & use it more. And if you can include reflection in the process, you’re going to continue to make good decisions that line up with your internal values and create a life that you want to live.
In the comments below, I would love to hear from you.
What’s a time that maybe you trusted your intuition, but you should never have trusted it?
Or maybe you didn’t listen to it enough and you really should have tuned in to what your gut feeling was telling you?
